Final Blog Post Submission

The semester has come to an end, and sadly, I will miss CT101 because of the flexibility of choices I get to choose in regards to expressing your kind of creativity and the comfortability of the class in regards to the classwork, the professor, and colleagues. This class was relaxing compared to my other stressful classes and is one of the reasons why I do not want this class to end even though it was a morning class.

At the beginning of the semester, the first assignment was whats was making me happy on the internet. This assignment was the foundation in which I learn how to blog by including hyperlinks, images, and gifs using Giphy and Imgur. This is useful for any posting online where you want to engage your audience by expressing your thoughts through different content like gifs, images, hyperlinks, and videos. This is what we did in the second assignment, where we used gifs to create a story about our reaction to CT101. I enjoy the second assignment because the story heavily relies on the gifs that flow between each gif in expressing the thoughts and feelings rather than just heavily relying on the paragraphs like the other posts. My least favorite was tutorials because, honestly, I do not usually record my progress as the final result is my primary focus. My favorite part was creating gifs, but it was difficult to find specific scenes that will fit the emotions I wanted to express in the second assignment (The Reaction to CT101). For example, I choose to focus all my gifs on that assignment on the tv show called Futurama. It does not have many gifs on websites like Giphy, so I had to look at videos on youtube that will best fit in the post. However, many clips were not precisely what I was looking for, so it was time-consuming.

I then had to use scenes that give the emotion I wanted figuratively. In the assignment, you can see some of the gifs I created like the first gif, and the fifth gif did not visually convey the message literally but has the same emotion on how I was feeling. The Are Memes Art? assignment, I will say it is my favorite assignment out of all because it was opinion-based, and I love playing devil’s advocate to express both sides of a controversial topic. Also, creating memes was much easier than creating gifs because of its simplicity of just emphasizing on the words when using a meme creator. Even without a meme creator, it is much easier to find an image to express an emotion then creating a gif from my experience. The Zine project retaught me how to use Photoshop since I have not used it for a while. I created multiple works, but every time I “upgrade” it, I felt that I will only consider one to be a finished project because it was simplistic yet figurative since most of the time, I tend to add a lot of details to a point it just cluster. Sometimes I need to tell myself less is more.

I was not so invested in the CT 101 assignments. Honestly, I did not find it as interesting even though we were given options from the DS 106, which is the only assignment I did not do despite picking the two projects from that website.

It could be due to my stubborn attitude of not wanting to do something if I’m not really interested in it.

Overall, I was excited most for building my own the website as I get to customize and choose the topics I wanted to incorporate. It was much more individualistic, and that was something I was not able to entirely do using the Ct 101 website and the assignments. My website is something I will continue because it organizes my interests (since I have so many) easily and coherently compared to the many books I have with messy notes. The website is easy to use, and I can edit it easy if I made a mistake or want to transform the look or features of the site. The skills I learn from CT101 is useful for making side money, like doing a front end design of a website or doing creative projects using Photoshop. Also, blogging helps to expose yourself to an online presence so that people can follow your work, know who you are, and contact you are all essential when wanting to build a public identity so that anyone who has internet access can easily reach you. This enables others to be able to learn from you as well as you learning from yourself and others in the process. I think I deserve A- to A because I was constant in meeting the one blog post a week and was never absent. However, I do not believe I deserve A+ because I did the minimum when it came to the CT 101 assignments.

GIF the Portrait Project- Jack Frost

Original Image of Jack Frost

Hue/Saturation

Photoshop Filters

Create GIF using Giphy

During class, the steps of creating GIF is done with Photoshop and Giphy. First, is uploading a portrait image in Photoshop. I choose the fictional character Jack Frost from the movie Rise of the Guardians. The cold weather of autumn reminds me of winter is approaching soon, and that is when I recall my childhood crush of Jack Frost (he is a personification of winter). Also, Jack Frost came to mind since Frozen 2 is coming out this month and being that there are many fan fiction of the relationship between Elsa and Jack as both share the same ice power. After I upload the photo in Photoshop, I click the hue/saturation filter and then click colorize and experiment with the hue, saturation, and lightness. I made the image blue to represent winter (snow, ice, cold, etc.) and black and white as neutral colors. Next, I experiment with different Photoshop filters. Lastly, I upload and rearrange the filter images onto Giphy. Then, I reduce the duration to .01 seconds and add the glitch filter. I found this project to be enjoyable, particularly experimenting with the difference gallery filters on Photoshop.

Reading Birth Chart (Part 2)

If you have not read Part 1 do so now before reading part 2 to give a general overview of the chart at first glance. As you saw in part 1 the birth chart is made up of 12 houses (for the 12 zodiac signs). Each sign is made up of 30 degrees that total up to 360 degrees in a whole circle. Below you will see the planets (yes the Sun and moon is consider “planets” in astrology, meaning a celestial body), degrees and the houses.

Below is a layout you can use to match your birth chart for example, I know my first house is in Scorpio because according to my chart from part 1 scorpio is located in the first house section, so this means the attributes of Scorpio is express through myself, first expressions, attitude, appearance ( note: the houses representation is in the chart below). First house is important in our physical appearance and how others see outwardly. This is also known as our ascendent/rising sign which is left of the horizon (as shown is the second image below). Your rising sign (aka ascendent sign ) is one of the 3 important parts of your overall personality. This is known as the public you. The Sun is another part of your overall personality and this is what many know based on their date of birth. This is our overall self. Lastly, the moon sign is the final part as it represents our inner needs, our emotions and what makes us feel secure. Please note: even though the big 3 (sun, moon and rising sign) shows an overall of your personality the planets show different aspects regarding different parts of your life. This is why the houses and other planets is just as important in knowing. Such as the midheaven when looking a career and the 7th house when looking about life partner and in addition to this there are aspects (square, trine, sextile, conjunction, etc.) is how each interact with one other will influence it as well. Yes, its a lot to take in, but this is why taking it part from part will help to understand the foundation so you are able to read the chart yourself as a whole rather than each individually.

Each sign combine with a house number represents the type of action and its effects.
Ascendent= the mask you wear in front of everyday people
Midheaven= life’s purpose, career ambition and public persona AKA Medium Coeli or MC / in the 10th house

Below shows the importance of each planet in detail and this affects our view in different aspects of life. An example, Mars (sex) and Venus (love) are the planets to look at to understand your love life as well moon plays a role, but we just focus on Mars and Venus in this instance. For the men the Venus sign tells us what type of qualities in a female he is attracted to, while his Mars is how he acts towards his love interest. For the women, Venus is how she need to be loved and how she acts towards her love interest, while her Mars is the the qualities of a man that turns her on. If a person is a Scorpio Sun that does not mean you will act intensely in your romantic relationships if one has their Venus in Sagittarius. Sagittarius is a sign that takes seem light-hearted in relationships unlike if a person has a Venus in Scorpio (which is me) values the intensity of relationships, which is not most people cup of tea. Mars is another planet that tells us what we are attracted to, but is solely on sexual needs. Mars also tells us our course of action on how and what we direct our energy on. Also, one should look at the house of any sign and the sign corresponding to that sign. For example, if person A, sun in Scorpio in a 4th house will have a different energy than person B with a Sun in Scorpio than the 1st house (which I have). This is because 4th house is rules Cancer ( water sign ) which is focus on home and security as the moon (sensitive and emotional) is the ruler of Cancer while the 1st house is ruled by Aries (fire sign) which is all about one’s self and is ruled by Mars (aggressive planet compared to the moon). This is say both Scorpios will process their sun sign in a different way based on the house placement since you taking into account the house placement ruler of the sign and planet. If we are just focusing on the sun sign, person A their ego (Sun) is a sense of security while person B their ego is more self centered and can be more impatient than person A since Aries rules the 1st house. We can see Person B signs shares Mars and both Scorpio and Aries share the same planet which will make the person more “fiery” than a “normal” Scorpio while Person A has Mars from the sun in Scorpio like Person B, but also has the moon which is rules emotions.

There are 30 degrees in each sign, 0 is the start of a sign while 30 is the end of a sign as well as the minutes that follow afterward. In each of the 3o degrees degrees there are 3 decans. Critical degrees place in your chart has a higher importance in one’s chart. The last degree(29) of any sign is anaretic degree (critical) indicate it is weaker in that aspect compared to if it was in a sign that was 10 degrees for example. Also, it indicate that there will be some type of challenge. This is a period of transition where the sign is about to move into another sign and eventually take on the other sign later in life. Any sign at degree at 0 degrees is also consider a critical degree as it is starting a new beginning of the sign.

Other critical degrees are:

0, 13, and 26 degrees of the cardinal signs (Aries, Cancer, Libra, and Capricorn)

8-9 and 21-22 degrees of fixed signs (Taurus, Leo, Scorpio, and Aquarius); and

4 and 17 degrees of mutable signs (Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius, and Pisces).

Below is a video that goes more in depth.

Next, we will look at the calculation of your chart and discover the dominant element (water, fire, air or earth) , the dominant modality (fixed, mutable, and cardinal) , dominant sign and planet. (Part 3)

The Downfall of Narcissus

This version is told by the Roman poet Ovid in Metamorphoses, even though Narcissus and other characters are Greek. Narcissus is known for his beauty that many fell in love with and left many women and some men broken hearted. He was born in Thespiae in Boeotia, the son of Cephissus and the nymph Liriope. Liriope, asks Tiresias (a prophet) if Narcissus will live to old age. Tiresias answers, “Yes, if he never knows himself.” Echo is a mountain nymph who falls in love with 16 year old Narcissus when spotting him hunting deer in the forest. Echo was unable to speak to Narcissus due to her curse that was cast by Hera.

As you may know Zeus has always been out engaging with other females which makes Hera revengeful in regards to whoever female is involved with Zeus.

One day Zeus was flirting with the nymphs while Echo is put in charge to be the look out and stall Hera (Zeus wife), so that Zeus can escape. Hera realizes Echo’s intention and punishes Echo by taking away her voice to only repeat what ever she hears. So, when Echo fell hopelessly in love with Narcissus all she did was follow him in hoping he will speak to her (stalker much). One day, Narcissus is out with his hunting friends. Narcissus yells to call out to his friends are. Echo excitedly yells back (remember she can only repeat what she hears) and meets up with Narcissus. Narcissus is not thrill to see Echo and tells her to go away.

He mades a rude comment around the lines saying he will rather die then be with her.

Echo runs aways crying into a cave and grief from her broken heart. Her love for Narcissus did not fade and eventually starve to death leaving only her voice, which is a reason why you hear echos in caves.

In the mean while, Narcissus continues to break hearts until Nemesis, goddess of vengeance, overheard the story and decided to punish Narcissus by having Narcissus sees himself in the pond and be fascinated by his own reflection. He tries to convince his reflection (Narcissus thought his reflection was another person, weirdly) to love him as he has many people that wants him. Narcissus eventually gets hungry, but can not leave the pond and then dies which is similar to what happened Echo’s obsession with Narcissus. In some other versions, Narcissus stabs himself or drown. Apparently, no one could find Narcissus body except for the Narcissus flower aka the daffodil.

The Narcissus Flower aka the daffodil

Therefore, this myth teaches us karma in the way how Narcissus treated Echo was the same result that happened to him. Also, narcissistic behavior like how prideful Narcissus was lead to his downfall once he “know himself” (<- prophecy that foretold what will lead to his downfall) . Another version is with Narcissus and Ameinias.

Reading Birth Chart (Part 3)

The inner planets consist of the Sun (sun in inner considered inner in astrology, even though its not a planet), Moon, Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, and Saturn. To use my chart as an example, the water element is dominant among my inner planets since I have Sun in Scorpio, Venus in Scorpio, and Jupiter in Pisces. The inner planets represent the individual identity and day to day. Jupiter changes every year while Saturn changes 2-3 years and theses planets are consider to be the social planets. The outer planets like Neptune, Uranus, and Pluto are how we relate to society on a larger scale and is considered generational. The outer planets move slow compared to the inner planets. Uranus takes 7-8 years, Neptune takes 12-13 years, and Pluto 11-32 years.

You can get this full report of all the calculations at https://www.astro.com/. Next, Click on click on Extended Chart Selection. Click on Guest Users and enter your data. Then, click on the section tab label Pullen/Astrolog. Select Chart Type as Simple Chart Delineation by Walter Pullen. Finally click the “Click here to show the chart” and then scroll all the way till you see a chart like the one above.

As you can see the chart and the overall report gives an in detail calculation of your chart. It displays the greatest influence by ranking it from 1 (the most influence) to 12 (least impact) on the planets as well as the signs. According to my chart, the Sun is rank the highest and has the biggest impact on me which if you remember from the introduction the Sun represents one’s self, ego , and personality. The Sun is my dominant planet. Think of the Leo traits as it is the sign that rules the Sun.

Now to look at the signs, according to my chart Scorpio is rank number 1 which means Scorpio its my dominant sign. This means I will be taking a lot of Scorpio traits. In my case my Sun Sign is my dominant sign. However, this is not always the case. You can also look at it as my dominant sign is Scorpio yet it does not correspond with my dominant planet the Sun as the Sun is ruled my Leo. Aries, will be my second highest followed by the third Aquarius.

Perviously, we talk about the dominant element in the inner planets, now we will look into the elements overall. As seen above my dominant element is fire, followed by water which is almost the same amount is percentage (just a 1.5 % difference). As stated in the introduction if your dominant is fire you will be impulsive, jovial, passionate, go-getter, etc. But, I will say in my case the water element plays a major role as well (as you can see from the chart very slight difference). If your water dominant your intuition and feelings rule over your mind and you will want deep connection in all aspects spiritually including your relationships .

Lastly, your dominant modality can either be fixed, mutable or cardinal. Based on my chart fixed is my dominant modality, followed by cardinal. This means I prefer stability, and can be stagnant, and unforgiving. My second dominant cardinal means wanting to initiate change. But, since its 15.6 % difference I won’t say it is a modality that best suits my everyday lifestyle. I agree that I am more fixed than any other of the other modality as I do not like sudden change than those who are mutable dominant who can adapt very easily. Overall, each of us have some parts of all sign, planet, and modality, but this chart will help you become aware of your which ones is most prominent and which ones are not by its ranking.

Reading Birth Chart (Part 1)

Since there are many components of a birth chart. I decide to break it into parts. I will use my chart as an example. Let first observe what we see in general not focusing on the details.

You can obtain your own natal chart wheel @ https://astro-charts.com/.
This chart shows what each symbol represents the importance of each symbol is cover in Part 2.
@https://www.wikihow.com/Read-an-Astrology-Chart

This may look intimidating but its not when you break it down. Let’s first look at the above example, which can be reference when interpreting yours. As you can see many of the planets are at the western hemisphere as well as many being at the bottom of the hemisphere. If you have majority of your planets are at the western hemisphere (like me) this shows you are more independent, individualistic, self motivated, leadership ability and more of a person who like to create their own destiny without the need of others. I will say this pretty accurate for me. On the other hand , if majority of your planets are at the eastern hemisphere that means you rather has someone else take the lead, somewhat dependent on others, adaptable, and centers around partnerships and friendships. Please note when reading the chart bottom hemisphere means North (below the horizon) and top hemisphere means Southern (above the horizon). But eastern and western is read normally as the compass direction. If you see that majority of your planets are at the bottom hemisphere like me, the Northern hemisphere you placed the important of privacy as highly important. You enjoy working alone, is self-focused and this suggests an introverted type of person (which again is accurate for me). On the other hand, if majority of your planets are at the top hemisphere (Southern hemisphere) , this suggest you place recognization for your work, value fame, love working with others, take part of public affairs and enjoy the spotlight (this suggests a extroverted person).

South= Social and public focused
East= Self starter
North=Private and self focused
West= Responsive to others but dependence on others to initiate

Now, the chart is divided into 4 quadrants. as shown below.

Looking at my chart, I can tell I have majority of my planets in the 1st quadrant which according to the image above I focus on me or another word will be self centered. As you can also see I have no planets in 3 quadrant. This overview of the chart gives a glimpse in one’s personality by showing the emphasis and the weakness of your chart as a whole. However, the the overall chart should be analyze before making the assumption.

This chart shows the overall layout of the quadrants, houses, and hemispheres.

Next we talk about the houses, degrees of each placement which consist of the critical degrees for example 0 degrees is a critical degree in my chart as my moon in Libra is 0 degrees, and what each planet purpose is in relation to certain aspects of your life. (Part 2)

The Story of Hades ☠️ and Persephone🌱 (The Birth of the Seasons)🍁❄️🌷☀️

Welcome back! The love 💕 story of Hades and Persephone is one of the most famous stories in Greek mythology. Well, it is not the most romantic as Persephone was abduct against her will. However, Hades treat Persephone as a queen (literally she became the Queen of the Underworld) which is romantic in that sense because let be real they were a whole lot of incest, killings, and revenge. Romance in any kind is hard to come by in the Greek gods/goddess world.

Before Persephone was the goddess of the Underworld (aka the beautiful maiden), she was the goddess of spring who was the daughter of Zeus (king of gods and sky) and Demeter (goddess of harvest,  agriculture and fertility of the earth).

By the way, Zeus and Demeter are brothers and sisters, and Zeus and Hades are brothers; therefore, Zeus and Hades is Persephone’s uncle 🤢.

One day, Persephone was gathering flowers with her flora nymphs,  Hades saw the beauty of Persephone and fell in love with her 😍. Hades then abduct Persephone and brought her to the Underworld to make her his wife 💍. Once Demeter found out Persephone was missing she asked the nymphs what has happen. No one knew and this made Demeter angry 😡and refused to grow crops which lead to famine. She cursed 🤬all the nymphs into sirens. Then, she asked Helios (the god of the sun) what has happened and she was told that Hades has kidnapped her. Zeus commanded that Hades release Persephone. Persephone did not know the ramifications of eating or drinking anything from the underworld. Hades agrees to his brother wish but, wants to keep Persephone. Persephone soon develop feelings for Hades and start to fall in love with Hades as he treated her with compassion and treated her as an adult. Not to mention how fast he made her his wife and queen.

At the same time she did miss her mother. Hades tricked Persephone into eating 6 pomegranate seeds from the underworld before she could leave. This means each seed she ate translated to one month she has to stay in the Underworld with Hades. This explains the seasons as Persephone spends six months (3 months (Fall) and 3 month (Winter)) with Hades in which Demeter is sadden that her daughter is leaving. This is why the season Fall is the time of harvest and the time where the plants and crops die because this is the time Persephone is leaving earth to go to the Underworld. However, when Persephone reunited with her mother this is the time of Spring, where plants start to flourish because of Demeter happiness to be with her daughter again. This is the the other 6 months of the year which is Spring and Summer. This is how the seasons came to be.

I think this is one of my favorite because of the attraction of opposites and that is a story at first of unrequited love . Persephone (the goddess of spring) has an innocence beauty who is lighthearted and tender, attracts the dark Hades who rules death. Unlike the other gods, Hades treated her like his equal, and not as a property. He was saddened when she did not reciprocate the same feeling he had for her at first, but he was also patient. I will say I did enjoy the ending as I think it was fair that Demeter and Hades share the equal amount of time with Persephone and I can say I relate to Persephone of having a protective mother. Also, to relate to my other section of my website about astrology, Hades in astrology speaking is connected to Scorpio which is the sign of death, rebirth and the unseen (like the Underworld). My dominant sign is actually Scorpio and it appear multiple times in birth as it is my sun, ascendent/rising sign and venus sign in western astrology, which could be why Hades is one of my favorite gods. Just to note there are different version of this story as of all other myths. For example, some say that Hades trick Persephone eating that seeds while other say she willingly ate the seeds without the help of Hades, but the fact remain that she has ate the seeds. Hope you enjoy the story and my stay tune for the next story about Narcissus and Echo !

Introduction to Western Astrology

I am no expert in astrology as I am still learning. I always found astrology to be intriguing. I not just talking about reading your daily horoscope, I never believe the accuracy of that. It was more like reading my birth chart and determining parts of my personality. Before I thought my sun sign (Scorpio) was the only part of my personality, which is why I had doubts because not every Scorpio is the same as I did share similarities but there were also distinct differences. As we all know personality is not simplistic. I still have some doubt as I know astrology isn’t 100% as other factors like environment plays a role in shaping us. When I watched youtube videos, there were comments about people’s moon sign, rising sign and other planets and my curiosity spark ever since then. What is that you may ask ? Well, our personality isn’t just our sun sign which is what we all know according to our birth date. Our personality is made up of the main 3 signs which is our sun, moon and rising sign. We will get to that much later when we go over how to read a birth chart, but for now I will go over the basics of how western astrology is calculate and the overview of the zodiac signs. If you are curious to have a summary of your birth chart free I recommend https://justastrologythings.com/pages/chart/ . This is one of the many websites that not only calculate your birth chart, but gives a summary of the aspects, houses and planets. It is important to know the exact time of birth for an accurate reading as signs change even if it is a 30 minutes off can change placements. Birth chart placements are determined by date of birth, time of birth and location of birth. My sun sign is Scorpio, moon sign Libra, and rising/ascendent sign is Scorpio.

Astrology is consider a pseudoscience. There are 2 types of astrology which are Western astrology (common in western countries like the USA) and Vedic astrology (common in eastern countries like India). The main difference between Western astrology and Vedic astrology is the system they use. Western astrology uses the tropical zodiac system which the signs are defined by the seasonal movement of the Sun. On the other hand, Vedic astrology uses sidereal system which is based upon the physical positions of the constellations in the sky. Your western sign can be different in your Vedic chart. This doesn’t mean Vedic astrology is inaccurate, in fact both types of astrology is consider valid. There are calculate differently, but has the same value. It depends on which you prefer. Personally, I prefer Western astrology.

Are Memes Art?

Memes like Art, Is Subjective

Memes are not the first type of art that comes to mind when we consider art compare to famous artworks in museums. However, it can be art as it is a form of self-expression. This is express through not just the words, images, or video but also in the layout such as the position, font, colors, etc. This allows the creator to demonstrate their thoughts and emotions in an easy, yet effective and relatable manner, which is one of the reasons why memes are so popular. Memes take only seconds to read, understand, share, and sometimes have a good laugh. Memes are art in which connects the creator or/and the audience through emotions.

Memes simplistic nature, allows anyone to become a “memer” in promoting one’s creativity. An effort isn’t needed for something to be classified as art. A person who effortlessly creates their work can be art to someone else. This is why art is subjective to the audience or/and the creator.

Therefore, art is in the eye of the beholder, which is why it is a controversial topic. Anything can be art, including memes as long as it evokes an emotion(s). A meme can affect each person differently as one can find it relatable or/and humorous while another doesn’t.

Check out the Debate on the difference of opinion. Again, I agree with the meme above if it moves YOU it is art.

Introduction to Greek Mythology

The creation of the universe started with Chaos (emptiness, shapeless, full with dark energy) which somehow started to give birth to 5 deities which are:

  • Gaia The Earth
  • Tartarus Deity & one of the realms within the Underworld
  • Eros God of passionate sexual desire AKA Cupid in Roman mythology) *( in later sources, Eros is the son of Aphrodite and Ares)
  • Erebus Darkness that cover the underworld
  • Night Darkness that cover the Earth

Erebus and Night gave birth to Aether (the air of the gods in which they breathe). Gaia produced Uranus (the sky, the son and husband of Gaia) by herself. First, Gaia and Uranus first offsprings were monsters including hecatoncheires (Cottus, Briareos and Gyges) and  cyclopes (Brontes, Steropes and Arges) Then, Gaia and Uranus produced the first generation of titians which were:

  • Oceanus God of all the salt water on earth (husband/brother to Tethys)
  • Tethys Goddess of all the fresh water on earth (wife/sister of Oceanus)
  • Hyperion God of the light (husband/brother to Theia)
  • Theia Goddess of shining (wife/sister to Hyperion)
  • Themis Goddess of divine law and order (Zeus second wife)
  • Rhea Goddess fertility and motherhood (wife/sister to Cronus)
  • Mnemosyne Goddess of Memory and remembrance (affair with Zeus lead to birthing 9 Muses)
  • Iapetus God of mortal life (husband/ uncle to Clymene (one of the Oceanides and is a daughter of Tethys and Oceanus)
  • Coeus God of intelligence and farsight (husband/brother to Phoebe)
  • Phoebe Goddess of prophetic radiance (wife/sister to Coeus)
  • Crius God of heavenly constellations
  • Cronos God of time and the ages (King of the Titians, husband/brother to Rhea)
